SUMMARY:Derek Edward: Oxy Moron
DESCRIPTION:General onsale begins on Friday\, November 28 at 12pm PST.  \nEvery few millennia\, a comic emerges\, born from the cosmic soup of fate and time\, jostled by the gales of change onto the unpredictable shores of comedic brilliance. This is a man who embodies pluck and wit\, lighthearted yet encumbered\, and a naivete that somehow remains endearing.  As Derek says:  In the grand contest of life\, he stands proudly as a bona fide “participant.” \nWell … truth be told\, there’s a lot more to it than that.  From Vegas to St. John’s\, this Just For Laughs veteran is universally considered to be among the comic elite. Certainly his peers think so\, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee\, and winner of Best Standup Comic – Canadian Comedy Awards\, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy. As Rick Mercer says\, “Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.” \nClearly the critics agree: “5 STARS – the funniest man on earth” – Winnipeg Free Press; “4 STARS – the crowd howled” – Victoria Times Colonist; “still the funniest man in Canada” – Toronto Sun; “Edwards reigns as the King of Canadian comedy” – Charlottetown Guardian; “Derek Edwards is hysterical” – Calgary Sun; “Edwards takes stand-up to next stage” – Georgia Straight; “the epitome of timing & storytelling” – Halifax Chronicle Herald; “the comedian’s comedian” – London Free Press. \nSo come on out and join Derek for his latest show\, Oxy Moron\, as it makes its way across Canada. Expect a night of perceptive guesswork and charmingly misguided jabs from a cherished performer. Enjoy some hearty laughs\, a sprinkling of wisdom\, and the pleasure of mingling with fellow humans. It’s a triple win! \n\n\n\nFor more info & comedy clips\, visit www.shantero.com

SUMMARY:Michael Kaeshammer
DESCRIPTION:Student/Child $18 \n\n\n\n\nMichael Kaeshammer isn’t so much a piano player as a piano whisperer\, a master musician and songwriter able to coax dazzling\, kaleidoscopic sounds from his instrument in a way few can rival. That gift powers Turn It Up\, Kaeshammer’s superb 15th album\, broadly described as “eclectic yet accessible jazz-based pop” though\, as with all Kaeshammer’s music\, far more expansive than one simple description can possibly illustrate.\n\nAcross a brilliant\, globe-trotting career highlighted by nine tours of China\, three appearances at the Olympics\, and countless shows opposite international superstars\, the German-born\, B.C.-based Kaeshammer has electrified audiences with his indelible repertoire and consistently positive outlook on life which infuses his lyrics. “I am a very positive person\,” confirms the seven-time JUNO Award nominee and unabashed foodie\, who hosts cooking show Kaeshammer’s Kitchen on Vancouver Island’s CHEK TV. “I really love playing shows and being on-stage. If Turn It Up helps me to do more of that\, then I’m all in. Music is my favourite thing to do

SUMMARY:Tower of Song: A Creative Tribute to Leonard Cohen
DESCRIPTION:Tower of Song presents \n\nTower of Song: a creative tribute to Leonard Cohen\, featuring Oliver Swain & Glenna Garramone\, plus special guests Daniel Lapp and Adrian Dolan \nThis is not your average cover band\, but a creative tribute and a re-imagining of Leonard Cohen’s songs and poetry by 2 of BC’s celebrated singer-songwriters: 2x Western Canada Music Award Winner and Juno Nominee Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone. Together they have arranged Cohen’s timeless songs beautifully\, for two voices\, string bass\, piano\, guitar and banjo. For this performance they will be joined by 2 phenomenal multi-instrumentalists: world-renowned fiddler and trumpet player Daniel Lapp\, and Juno award winning player Adrian Dolan on violin/fiddle\, viola\, piano\, accordion\, and mandolin. This is the work of Leonard Cohen as you’ve never heard it before. \n“I said to Hank Williams\, how lonely does it get?Hank Williams hasn’t answered yetBut I hear him coughing all night longA hundred floors above me\, in the Tower of Song” \nWhen Leonard Cohen sang these words\, the Tower of Song was a metaphor for the inspiration that flows between songwriters\, each toiling away on their own\, but connected by their shared craft. Moved by this concept\, Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone collaborated to produce a project that is a dialogue through song and a tribute to the legendary songwriter. Re-imagining both rare and classic works of Cohen\, the duo have crafted a sound that resonates with both longtime Cohen fans and a younger audience. \nAs Canada’s longest running Leonard Cohen tribute\, Tower of Song have toured across Canada several times\, playing more than 200 shows to thousands of people in theatres and folk clubs. Highlights include a mainstage performance at the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival\, and sold out shows at Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna\, and packed houses at The McPherson Playhouse in Victoria\, the West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg\, and Aeolian Hall in London. \n“The tunes are hauntingly lovely. Wonderful takes with close harmonies and re-rhythmings. Musically sound. Faithful by being strongly\, creatively Cohen\, and yet wholly their own.”– James N. Porter\, Professor Emeritus (Arts)\, York University \nVisit www.towerofsongmusic.com for more info.

DESCRIPTION:Cowichan Symphony Society presents \n\nSubscriptions available now: Adult $240 | Student/Child $60. Please call 250-746-2722 to book subscriptions.  \nChristian Kluxen conductorAndreas Brantelid cello *Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 “Scottish”Beethoven Egmont OvertureProkofiev Sinfonia Concertante * \nThe misty and melancholy atmosphere of Edinburgh’s Holyrood Palace provided the initial inspiration for Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony. Its triumphant finale parallels the conclusion of Beethoven’s Egmont – a tragedy that ends in victory. The Sinfonia Concertante is one of Prokofiev’s final works\, created in consultation with soloist Mstislav Rostropovich. It is one of the most demanding works in the cello repertoire. To interpret it\, Christian Kluxen welcome his outstanding Danish compatriot\, Andreas Brantelid.

SUMMARY:Reel Alternatives: Koln 75
DESCRIPTION:The Cowichan Hospice Society presents \nSubscribe to all 5 shows for $70! Single tickets on sale on January 15\, 2026. Subscriptions can be purchased by phone or in-person only.  \n\nBased on a true story\, Köln 75 follows how the concert was conceived and orchestrated by the efforts of a teenage up and coming concert promoter\, Vera Brandes\, (played by German actress Mala Emde). Her enthusiasm set her to multitasking – from organizing the concert venue (the Cologne Opera House)\, promoting the event\, and selling the tickets\, to convincing Jarrett to perform when he almost dropped out when the Bösendorfer Imperial Grand piano he was promised was nowhere to be found. John Magaro plays Jarrett with his own intensity\, a sublime counterpoint to Mala Emde’s joyful portrayal of the enthusiastic and unstoppable Vera. Köln 75 captures the compelling\, entertaining and\, until now\, unknown backstory about Jarrett’s one-hour\, entirely improvised concert\, which became the best-selling solo album in jazz history. \nDrama \n\n\n\nReel Alternatives is a monthly fundraiser bringing Toronto Film Festival’s critically acclaimed films to the Cowichan Valley. This year’s circuit will feature five acclaimed films. All proceeds go directly to benefiting individuals and families in Cowichan through Cowichan Hospice by ensuring hospice services are available when they need them!

SUMMARY:Ballet Victoria's Alice In Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:Senior $32 | Student/Child $18 | Family $95 \n\n“Imagination is the only weapon in the war with reality.” Follow Alice down the rabbit hole and discover a whole new world of fantasy and frivolous fun. “We’re all mad here” mad for great dance! Set to a score by Benjamin Britten the choreography is playful and quirky with some unforgettable characters such as the Queen of Heart or the Mad Hatter and more. \nFounded in 2002\, Ballet Victoria is a boutique professional ballet company with 14 dancers and four yearly productions. Our performances are dramatic\, technically demanding\, and often laced with humour. Their productions are accessible and relevant to a wide range of multicultural audiences. The shows are entertaining\, hold great artistic depth and satisfy both those who discover ballet and the expert aficionado. With the direction of Paul Destrooper\, innovation is happening\, quietly but insistently. Music inspires bodies to create beauty and harmony in dance. \nHaving produced close to 100 new works\, including 10 full length ballets\, and toured in Canada\, the USA and Mexico\, Ballet Victoria’s artistic team is constantly exploring new territory. Music creates an uncompromising range of choreographies\, from Baroque music to rock\, from opera to folk songs. The result: pure magic. The experience: fascinating. The memories: pure delight.

SUMMARY:Trooper
DESCRIPTION:Tier 1 (Rows A-J): $93.50Tier 2 (Rows K-P): $77 \nWith special guest\, The Needful \nAbout Trooper:It goes like this: millions of records\, a couple dozen hits\, a Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy) for Band of the Year and ongoing sold-out shows across Canada. Universal Music acknowledges them as “one of Canada’s top five selling bands of all time” and the Vancouver Sun has called them “Canadian rock heroes of the first order … the best performing band in Canada”. Then\, as now\, what makes Trooper what they are is great performances and great pop songwriting. \nTrooper’s ten studio albums have earned multiple gold and platinum awards and their 6 X Platinum greatest hits\, Hot Shots\, continues to be one of Universal Music Canada’s best selling catalog CDs and one of the country’s most enduring party soundtracks. In celebration of the band’s 35th anniversary\, a totally updated and re-mastered collection – “Hits From 10 Albums” – was released\, featuring songs spanning the entirety of their recording career. John Kereiff\, writing in Gonzo Magazine\, dubbed the collection “THE summer album of 2010.” \nIn 2012 Trooper songwriters Ra McGuire and Brian Smith were awarded SOCAN’s prestigious ‘National Achievement Award’ to acknowledge their significant and lasting contribution to Canada’s songwriting legacy. “We’re Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)”\, “Raise a Little Hell”\, “The Boys in the Bright White Sportscar”\, “Two For the Show”\, “Pretty Lady” “Good Ol’ General Hand Grenade”\, “Round\, Round We Go”\, “Santa Maria”\, “Janine” – just a few of the Trooper hits that\, according to writer Ryan Sparks\, “have woven their way into the fabric of this country like no other bands have been able to do. Tune into any radio station from Vancouver to St John’s and you’re bound to encounter one of their dozen hit radio anthems that are still featured in heavy rotation to this day.” \nIt’s no exaggeration to say that Trooper has become a Canadian legend. They continue to perform their huge collection of hits with the vitality and sense of humour that has served them well on their steady march through the hills and valleys of Canadian Rock and Roll. They were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2023\, and the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2024. Trooper continues with Paul Gogo\, Scott Brown (both well-known Nanaimo musicians)\, and Clayton Hill\, the longest running members of the band. Longtime west coast musician and Trooper guitar tech Steve Crane takes the lead guitar position\, and international recording artist Paul Laine performs lead vocals (also a well-known local musician). \nAbout The Needful:Hailing from Canada\, The Needful is not just a band; they are a sonic journey\, a collision of raw emotions\, and an unyielding passion for music. With their unique blend of alternative\, indie\, folk\, electronic\, and 90s pop-rock revival influences\, The Needful crafts a sound that resonates deep within the soul.
