SUMMARY:Reel Alternatives: Broker
DESCRIPTION:The Cowichan Hospice Society presents \nSingle tickets will be on sale Saturday\, January 28 at 10am. \n\nHirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters) directs this beautifully crafted and achingly touching crowd-pleaser about an unconventional family formed under the strangest of circumstances. Making an effortless transition from Japan to Korea\, Kore-eda revisits themes dear to him — forsaken childhood\, adoption\, and broken families are at the narrative core of undisputed masterpieces such as Nobody Knows (TIFF ‘04)\, Like Father Like Son (TIFF ’13)\, and Shoplifters (TIFF ’18). Without forcefulness or rhetoric\, Kore-eda looks directly at life and creates a small\, unconventional family universe. Broker is a film filled with moments of wonder and powerful emotion. \nDrama | Content advisory: mature themes\, violence\, coarse language \n\n\n\nReel Alternatives is a monthly fundraiser bringing Toronto Film Festival’s critically acclaimed films to the Cowichan Valley. This year’s circuit will feature five acclaimed films. All proceeds go directly to benefiting individuals and families in Cowichan through Cowichan Hospice by ensuring hospice services are available when they need them. \nNote that the concession will be open with snacks and drinks\, along with coffee and tea\, available for purchase.

From the producers of smash hit show That’ll Be The Day\, this phenomenal production tells the story of the most successful musical duo of all time – The Everly Brothers. Featuring hits such as Bye Bye Love\, All I Have To Do Is Dream and Cathy’s Clown\, this unique concert-based musical entwines the wonderful\, sad yet glorious story of The Everly Brothers. \nThe show follows the brothers’ rise to fame from humble country beginning to superstardom\, through their decade-long feud to their glorious reunion which gave them back to each other\, and back to the world. \nWith “harmonies from heaven” that influenced The Beatles\, The Beach Boys\, and Simon & Garfunkel\, The Everly Brothers were unmatched in their talent. Also featuring songs from a couple of the Everly Brothers’ good friends\, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison. \nProducer Trevor Payne (That’ll Be The Day) says: “The Everly Brothers were an original and unique act that had a sound like nothing else. Their harmonies were so tight that every group wanted to emulate them. Before that there was a singer\, a band and backing vocals\, The Everly’s entwined all of them and created “the harmony group.” Walk Right Back is the first show of its kind to tell this phenomenal story of two brothers and their unforgettable music. This is a show not to be missed! \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Shrek The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Cowichan Musical Society presents \nChild (8 & under) $39 | Rows O-P $39 | Rows A & B $29 \n\nShrek the Musical is a hilarious fairy tale in which curses are reversed\, monsters get the girls\, donkeys and dragons find love\, and princesses are beautiful in all shapes and sizes. \n\n\n\n\nGrumpy\, gruff\, green ogre Shrek lives alone in his swamp. Suddenly\, his hermit existence is thrown open\, when a group of homeless fairy tale characters — Pinocchio\, the Gingerbread Man\, the Three Little Pigs\, and more — burst upon his swamp\, seeking refuge from the persecution of the cruel\, vertically-challenged Lord Farquaad.  In a desperate attempt to regain his swamp’s hermetic peace\, Shrek enters the world for the first time in his life. He travels to Princess Fiona’s prison\, rescues her from a fire-breathing dragon\, and then – scariest of all – is forced to get to know the princess as he tries to bring her back to evil Farquaad. To the determinedly unsocial ogre’s dismay\, Fiona is very different from what he expected a princess to be. She may even provoke Shrek’s most novel experience yet: Love. With dazzling sets\, high energy dance numbers\, and laughs by the minute\, Shrek the Musical transforms the contemporary children’s book and popular animated feature film into a stage musical that is sure to entertain and make audiences believers in happy endings for all. \n\n\n\n\nThe Cowichan Musical Society (CMS) has been bringing the highest quality amateur musical theatre to the Cowichan Valley since 1982! DESCRIPTION:This performance of Is This The Christmas has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience. Patrons with tickets will be contacted by the Ticket Centre.  \nWunderbread presents \nOut of the mouths of babes came this delightful title of a new holiday musical celebration. “Is This The Christmas “ is an upbeat\, not-so-traditional performance of holiday classics both old and new. It features both a superstar ten-piece ensemble of musicians and dancers from the mid-island area as well as acclaimed powerhouse femme fatale vocalist\, Jona Kristinsson. Jona connects with the audience like no other and her angelic voice breathes new life into the holiday classics you know and love. Experience the magic and joy of Christmas all over again for the very first time. Not to be missed! \nWunderbread was started in 1996 with six good friends looking to have some fun playing music and haven’t looked back since. Over the years\, Wunderbread has performed a wide variety of shows\, from Night Clubs\, Conventions and Summer fairs\, to the “Sun Run” at B.C Place for over 45\,000 people. With non-stop sets\, multiple costume changes and choreographed moves. The energy coming off the stage leaves nobody out of the party. The set list has evolved over the years to include songs from the 60’s to the 90’s\, each song instantly recognizable and irresistibly dance-able.
